Julia Vollmer is a former member of Troop 58 in the Girl Scouts of Nassau County and received her Gold Award in 2015.
Julia’s Girl Scout Gold Award Take Action Project, Be a Better You, addressed how self-esteem impacts mental and emotional health. Research shows that teenage girls often feel pressure to look and act a certain way and that these pressures can lead to issues such as low self-esteem and possibly more severe mental health issues such as depression. To combat this, Julia developed workshops based on research on stress, peer pressure, depression, social pressures, and suicide prevention. She presented her workshops to teenage girls, providing them with helpful coping mechanisms and resources.
